If You Can't Run, Hide
Very sensible, when there’s a North American black bear on the loose! I walked right past this big fat caterpillar the other day, but Graham spotted it and started droning on about how clever some beasties are with their camouflage. It was hanging out on one of the apple trees in the new orchard, and was a perfect imitation of the twig it was resting on – right down to the lenticels (pores in the bark). It’s just a pity that Graham’s photography skills are so rubbish…
But it’s good that he is better at spotting these things than I am, since he thinks it’s really good to see interesting wildlife on the croft, even if it is munching on his new trees. I would just have eaten it.
