Beware of the Bear

What a sorry state of affairs! A year on from getting onto the croft at Cromasaig 9 and still no sign of all the blog stuff that was supposed to explain what’s going on in an informative yet entertaining way. Virtually nothing on Facebook. The website looks rubbish (though having said that the shop is fully functional). Graham may be alright at planting trees but his execution of the IT side of things has lacked a certain oomph. Now that lots of things are happening on the croft as well as with Eleanor’s book business I think it’s quite important that this gets sorted pronto.

Well, as they say “Cometh the hour, cometh the man.” Or in this case, cometh the bear.

My name is Albert. I am a North American black bear originally from Jasper in Canada (actually my label says I’m originally from China but that’s ridiculous – everyone knows you don’t get North American black bears in China!). I met Eleanor and Graham in 2007 when they were on holiday, and moved with them to Scotland, where I enjoy hillwalking, sightseeing and fighting whatever local wildlife happens to be around. Especially badgers, which for reasons I can’t quite remember I consider my mortal enemies. Have you ever wondered why they’ve found badgers at over 700 metres on Beinn Eighe? It’s because they’ve got nowhere else to run. Not so keen on those pine marten things though. They bite. Hard. I’ve got loose threads to prove it.

Anyway, I think I’m getting off subject a bit. Unlike that other ursine writer, Winnie the Pooh, I am a bear of only moderately little brain. So I have appointed myself as the new Communications Manager for Cromasaig 9. As such I will be in charge of the blog, which will keep my avid reader(s) updated on progress both on the croft itself and at Barefoot on the Croft. I will explain what it is Graham and Eleanor are actually doing here, bigging up the successes and glossing over the disasters to portray a falsely rosy picture (à la Facebook) of life on the rock and bog – I mean the fine alluvial soils – of Cromasaig 9.

On my signal, unleash the midges!

Oh wait. Someone already has…
